I led a team in designing and manufacturing a batch of drone landing pads, applying a range of engineering processes and professional workflows to deliver a high-quality, functional product. This project served as a practical demonstration of my leadership, technical skills, and ability to manage complex production tasks from concept to completion.
The project began with conceptual development and detailed CAD modelling, where I designed modular landing pad components optimised for drone visibility and repeated field use. I produced a full production plan outlining materials, tools, timings, and personnel roles, which I regularly reviewed and updated as the project progressed.
We utilised laser cutting for precision-cut components, vacuum forming for shaping durable thermoplastics, and lathing for parts requiring rotational symmetry and fine tolerances. I enforced Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all machinery and supervised their safe use, ensuring full compliance with risk assessments and health and safety protocols.
To maintain clear communication and structure, I recorded meeting minutes after every team session and maintained a detailed manufacturing diary, tracking day-to-day progress, setbacks, and adjustments. These records supported informed decision-making, facilitated effective time management, and provided traceability for quality assurance purposes.
I also implemented a robust quality control process, checking each unit for consistency and functional reliability. The final batch was tested successfully and delivered on time, demonstrating both technical precision and effective teamwork.
This project combined technical expertise with professional-level planning, communication, and leadership, reflecting real-world engineering workflows and industry practices.
